What Is 5×2 Timber 2.4m?
Sawn Treated Timber C16/C24 (5″ x 2″) in 2.4m length is a formidable choice that can withstand rot, insect infestation, and the typical grey weather of the UK. While we may be lamenting the lack of hot and sunny days, we can take comfort in the fact that our treated timber will hold up well even in these conditions.
When it comes to wood exposed to the elements, it’s essential to provide adequate protection. Our 5×2 treated timber, also known as 47×125, is a high-quality pressure-treated C24 graded timber that offers resistance against both insects and fungi. We offer 47×125 timber in various lengths, and can customize the lengths as per your requirements.
5×2 2.4m C16/C24 Applications
Both C16 and C24 timber grades, despite their quality differences, are suitable for most construction projects. While C16 wood is slightly less durable than C24, it still provides strength and resilience, making it suitable for load-bearing and structural applications.
For larger-scale projects or applications where strength is critical, such as balconies, terraces, and bridges, we recommend using the stronger and more reliable C24 timber grade.
Thanks to the protective treatment of the timber, our 47×125 treated timber can be used in a wide range of indoor and outdoor applications, including:
- Flooring
- Roofing (rafters/joists in a loft floor)
- Walling
- Decking joists
- Carcassing timber in floor joists
- Garden furniture and other outdoor projects

What Does C16/C24 Carcassing Timber Mean?
C24 grade timber is superior to C16, offering greater strength with fewer defects and more knots. This makes it suitable for demanding tasks that require durability and sturdiness, such as floor joists or roof battens.
C24 timber is a premium choice that can support higher loads and wider spans. It is sourced from areas where slower growth rates result in a tighter grain, enhancing its strength and performance.
C16 graded timber, when pressure treated, can be used externally in the outer structure of a building, as well as for decking. It provides sufficient sturdiness for most applications and offers cost advantages compared to C24 timber while meeting performance requirements.
Timber Sizing Explained
At Trade Timber, our timber goes through a process of treatment with preservatives, kiln drying, and planing on all four sides to achieve smooth, eased edges for easy handling. Timber comes in various lengths and sizes, and is regularized to ensure consistent dimensions within ranges.
With a nominal size of 47mmx125mm, 5×2 timber actually has a finished size of 47mmx120mm. However, the difference is so negligible that it is commonly referred to as 47×125 or 5×2.
Pressure Treated Timber Benefits
When it comes to timber, including treated wood, untreated wood, and sawn carcassing timber, using high-quality treated wood is crucial for construction projects, especially in hard-to-access areas.
Investing in treated timber ensures resistance against rot, decay, and insect attacks. It is the most durable option, making it ideal for outdoor use. Moreover, treated timber requires minimal maintenance, saving you time and money in the long run.
