What Is 4×2 Timber 4.2m?
Sawn Treated Timber (4×2) 4.2m is a high-quality treated timber available in both C16 and C24 grades. The pressure treatment applied to this timber provides excellent resistance against wood rot, particularly in damp and humid environments (please note that treated timber is not waterproof).
Additionally, the treatment effectively protects the timber from pests that could compromise the structural integrity of your construction. We offer reliable 50×100 timber in various lengths, all with a consistent thickness of 47mm.
Please Note: The finished size of our carcassing timber may vary slightly from the nominal dimensions. You can expect to receive timber that is finished with a thickness 2mm less and a width 5mm less than the nominal measurements stated. Colour and finish may slightly vary as this is a natural product.
4×2 4.2m C16/C24 Timber Applications
Both C16 and C24 timber grades have their merits and can be suitable for various construction projects. While C16 wood is slightly less durable than C24, it still offers robustness and resilience, making it suitable for strength and load-bearing applications.
For larger-scale projects or applications where strength is critical, such as balconies, terraces, and bridges, we recommend using the stronger and more dependable C24 timber grade.
Thanks to the protective treatment of the timber, 47×100 treated timber can be used in numerous indoor and outdoor applications, including:
- Flooring
- Roofing (rafters/joists in a loft floor)
- Walling
- Decking joists
- Carcassing timber in floor joists
- Garden furniture and other outdoor projects

What Does C16/C24 Carcassing Timber Mean?
C24 grade timber is superior to C16, offering greater strength with fewer defects and more knots. This makes it suitable for demanding tasks that require durability and sturdiness, such as floor joists or roof battens.
C24 timber is a premium choice that can support higher loads and wider spans. It is sourced from areas where slower growth rates result in a tighter grain, enhancing its strength and performance.
C16 graded timber, when pressure treated, can be used externally in the outer structure of a building, as well as for decking. It provides sufficient sturdiness for most applications and offers cost advantages compared to C24 timber while meeting performance requirements.
Pressure Treated Timber Benefits
When it comes to timber, including treated wood, untreated wood, and sawn carcassing timber, using high-quality treated wood is crucial for construction projects, especially in hard-to-access areas.
Investing in treated timber ensures resistance against rot, decay, and insect attacks. It is the most durable option, making it ideal for outdoor use. Moreover, treated timber requires minimal maintenance, saving you time and money in the long run.
