This premium-grade MDF is specifically designed with a moisture-repellent resin, making it highly suitable for interior applications such as bathroom or kitchen furniture where high humidity and moisture are a concern.
You can easily recognize these high-performance sheets by their distinct green surface. They can be effortlessly cut into various shapes using both hand tools and machine tools, while maintaining their wonderfully smooth finish.
Applications of 25mm MR MDF:
- Moisture-resistant MDF is an incredibly versatile panel intended for use in areas with high humidity, including bathrooms, boiler rooms, utility rooms, and kitchens.
- While they are moisture-resistant, it’s important to note that they are not waterproof or water-resistant. Like standard MDF, direct contact with wet conditions can lead to degradation. Therefore, we recommend using them exclusively for internal applications.
- Another advantage of 25mm Moisture Resistant MDF is its ability to provide a clean and smooth finish, ensuring excellent paint results when used for wall panelling or decorative projects.
Benefits and Key Features of Moisture Resistant MDF:
- Ideal for applications with fluctuating humidity levels
- High internal bond strength
- Popular in the joinery industry
- Easily shaped using machine tools and hand tools
- Easy to handle
- Intended for interior use only
- Suitable for a wide range of machining and surface finishes
- Conforms to the latest European low emission standards ‘E1’
- Can be easily sanded for a smooth finish, preventing the release of harmful fibers
Priming MR MDF Moisture-Resistant Sheets:
Regardless of whether it is moisture-resistant or standard MDF, priming is necessary before painting. The primer acts as a sealant, ensuring that the topcoat of paint does not bleed into the MDF.
Is All Moisture Resistant MDF Green?
In the UK, smaller MR MDF boards are typically green in color for identification purposes, but this color has no direct correlation with the moisture resistance of the boards.
Untinted and brown-colored MR MDF boards are also available in the market, resembling standard MDF. To identify the moisture-resistant properties of such boards, refer to the manufacturer’s technical specification sheet and look for standards related to MDF, such as EN622-5:2009 (which covers moisture resistance).
How is MR MDF Made?
The manufacturing process of MR MDF involves combining wood fibers (wood chippings, recycled offcuts, and sawdust) with moisture-repellent resins and waxes. The mixture is then cooked at a high temperature and pressed under high pressure to create sturdy and uniform panels.
The moisture resistance of MR MDF is achieved by using a moisture-repellent resin to bond the wood fibers together, which is not used in all types of MDF.
This manufacturing process ensures the elimination of knots, air pockets, and grain issues from the MDF boards, resulting in uniform panels with a defect-free and precision finish.
