When it comes to durability in humid conditions, Oriented Strand Board (OSB) surpasses most interior laminate sheet materials.
Engineered with load-bearing capabilities in mind, OSB is a panel composed of “oriented strands” formed by compressing wood fibers and adhesives in opposing orientations.
Comparable in performance to softwood plywood, OSB stands out with its robust tongue and groove profile. The precisely machined edges allow the boards to interlock seamlessly, creating a perfect fit. This makes OSB with tongue and groove ideal for platform floors, load-bearing roofing, flooring, wall applications, and ceilings.
OSB3 Tongue And Groove Flooring Board Applications
Designed with precision for load-bearing purposes, contractors rely on OSB3 tongue and groove boards as premium panels for roofing and flooring. They can also be used as sheathing materials for walls, floors, and ceilings. Each sheet measures 2400mm x 590mm x 18mm and features a tongue and groove finish for a snug and secure fit.
We recommend utilizing OSB3 tongue and groove for structural use in the following applications:
- Wall sheathing
- Roofing and flooring applications
- Signboards
- Furniture and concealment applications
Key Features of 18mm OSB3 Tongue & Groove Flooring Board:
OSB3 board, also known as sterling board, is an incredibly versatile engineered wood sheet material. It is created by layering strips and flakes of wood with adhesive resin and then hot-pressing them into a panel. This manufacturing process gives OSB3 its superior performance compared to its counterpart, OSB2.
While OSB2 is suitable for non-load bearing applications in dry conditions, OSB3 can be utilized for structural and load-bearing purposes in humid conditions, particularly in housing applications. The boards are edge-coated with a proprietary water-resistant sealer to minimize the risk of edge swelling.
Let’s explore the specifications and benefits of OSB3 tongue and groove:
- Easily sealed against the elements, making it suitable for both interior and exterior structural applications
- Precision-engineered tongue and groove design
- Machined edges ensure a tight and secure fit
- Reliable structural panel for house building and structural roofing
- Suitable for humid conditions (Service Class 1 & 2)
- Carries FSC certification and CE Mark
- Outstanding load-bearing properties
- Durable building board
- BBA approved
- Standard thickness of 18mm
- Cost-effective alternative to plywood
Tongue & Groove:
The tongue and groove boards consist of a “tongue” edge and a precisely engineered “groove” gap. During installation, the tongue edge seamlessly fits into the groove, making the installation process effortless. For added security, the boards can be glued or fastened with screws or nails using a method commonly known as “secret nailing.”
OSB Board for Humid Conditions:
Thanks to the resin binders and wax used in its manufacturing process, OSB sheet material exhibits tolerance to moisture and humidity. While OSB2 is suitable for dry conditions, OSB3 can withstand more challenging conditions. However, for permanent outdoor use, it is advisable to provide additional weather protection.
You can achieve this by applying weather-proof exterior paint followed by a wood waterproofing sealant. Allow 12-14 hours for drying before installation, and a second coat may be applied if necessary.
