What Is 8×2 Timber 3m?

Experience the durability of our premium 3m C24 graded 8×2 treated timber, designed to elevate the longevity of your constructions. This particular timber, also known as 200×50 timber, has been precisely cut to the specified length and treated with chemicals to provide protection against fungal and insect attacks.

Carcassing timber refers to kiln-dried treated structural graded softwood, commonly used in construction projects where a grading stamp is required. It serves a multitude of applications, both internally and externally, and is widely utilised in floor joists, roof joists, and timber framing construction.

Regardless of the specific application, cutting treated timber to the desired size for your project is relatively straightforward. However, it is important to exercise caution and utilise appropriate power tools, along with eye protection and a respirator.

Carcassing timber finds extensive use in the following building applications:

  • Stud walls
  • Joists for roofs, floors, and decking
  • Structural and general joinery applications
  • Timber framing construction

8×2 Treated Timber 3m Specifications

Our pressure-treated timber, also referred to as tanalised timber due to the impregnation of Tanalith E wood preservative, offers numerous benefits, including moisture resistance. This feature ensures that the timber maintains its structural integrity even in challenging weather conditions, including the unpredictable UK weather.

Let’s delve into the specifications:

  • Graded to a superior C24 standard, boasting excellent tensile strength.
  • Regularised with an eased edge for a refined finish.
  • Pressure treated with Tanalith ‘E’ to prevent rot and shield against direct contact with moisture.
  • Kiln dried to enhance stability and maintain straightness.
  • FSC Certified, indicating responsible sourcing practices.
  • High-density, ensuring robustness and longevity.
  • Cost-effective, providing a competitive price with a guarantee of quality.

What Does C24 Carcassing Timber Mean?

C24 grade surpasses C16 grade and offers increased strength, accompanied by more knots than lower graded timbers. This makes it particularly suitable for tasks that demand durability and sturdiness, such as floor joists or roof battens.

C24 timber stands as a premium choice, capable of supporting higher loads and wider spans. Only high-quality timber imported from regions where slower growth rates are dictated by weather conditions (resulting in tighter grain) can attain the coveted C24 grade.

Timber Sizing Explained

At Trade Timber, we prioritise the quality of our timber offerings. Therefore, all the timber we sell undergoes treatment with preservatives, followed by kiln drying and planing on all four sides, resulting in an easi edge profile that facilitates easy handling. Our 8 x 2 timber is available in longer lengths of up to 7.2m.

Timber sizes are often categorised as either nominal or finished. In the case of our product, with a nominal size of 47mmx200mm, the finished size measures 45mmx195mm. However, this negligible difference allows for common references such as 200 x 47mm, 47×200, or simply 8×2.
